Overview
Students departing from Gustavus should take action to transition from their Gustavus Account and associated College resources before departure. A checklist of actions to take is included below.
Details
- Update your alternate email address
- Copy important data from your Home Directory, Office 365 (OneDrive), and Gustavus Google Drive to another location such as a personal Google Drive, DropBox, or to your computer's hard drive. Please note: sharing drive files with a personal account WILL NOT be sufficient in retaining access to your data after the Gustavus account has closed; data must be downloaded and moved and/or ownership fully transferred in order to retain access after closure of the Gustavus Account.
- Keep in mind you will lose access to Gustavus-licensed applications such as Microsoft Office 365, Moodle, and other academic applications June 10th.
- Forward important email messages from your GusMail account to a personal account
- Export contacts from your Gustavus email account and import to a personal account
- Assign a new manager for shared Gustavus Google Calendars that may need management by a current student/employee after you leave
- Assign a new manager for Gustavus Google Groups that may need management by a current student/employee after you leave
- Download any photos or videos you have stored in your Gustavus Google Photos
- Transfer any projects from your Gustavus Canva account to a personal Canva account.
- Visit www.gustavustickets.com to update the email on your Gustavus ticketing account (to attend future college events using the same account)
- Update any personal accounts you have to use a personal email address instead of your Gustavus email address (this may include things like YouTube, Amazon, iCloud, social media platforms, streaming platforms, graduate school, FAFSA applications, etc)
- Let our Alumni Relations team know how to stay in touch with you! Update your contact info with them at the following form: https://gustavus.edu/forms/658/
FAQ
After I graduate, how long do I have access to my Gustavus account?
Students will retain access to their Gustavus account for approximately 90 days after graduation. The full Student Account Retention Policy can be viewed here: https://gustavus.edu/technology/policy/studentaccount.php
How do I get an official transcript after I graduate?
The Registrar's Office (https://gustavus.edu/registrar/) at Gustavus supplies official transcripts for all Gustavus students and alumni. You have two options for requesting transcripts:
- Paper - A paper transcript can be requested from the Registrar’s Office
- Electronic - An electronic (secure, certified PDF) version can also be requested.
For more information on transcript requests, please see: https://gustavus.edu/registrar/transcripts.php
I have a personal e-mail account; can I set up my Gustavus e-mail to be sent to this personal address?
For security reasons, email forwarding from your GusMail account is not an option. You can continue checking your Gustavus email by visiting https://gusmail.gac.edu or configuring your GusMail account through the GMail app on your mobile devices until the account is deactivated. We recommend forwarding important messages from your Gustavus email to a personal account.
Is it possible to access my Home Directory/MyData from off-campus?
Remote and on-campus access to your home directory ends when you graduate. If you need access to files from your Home Directory, please call the Technology Helpline (507-933-6111) or e-mail helpline@gustavus.edu. We will be happy to assist!
After graduation, if I am in need of computer help. Where should I go?
There are many businesses that provide support in case of serious computer problems; check with your computer or software vendor, or ask people in the area for a recommendation.
However, you should always use caution and good judgment when taking your computer to be repaired. It is recommended that you back up your data before having any service done to your computer, and remove any confidential data/sensitive data (taxes and other sensitive data, passwords, etc.) from your hard drive before having your computer serviced.
