Bringing a personal computer to campus ensures you can access needed work materials and websites for your schooling. Gustavus does not sell computers to the Gustavus community.
Details
Your platform choice should be determined by your relative comfort level and previous experience with each operating system. Gustavus owns and supports all platforms, so the decision is completely yours to make. Some textbooks come with software that is not web-based and not supported for Chromebooks. Certain majors and minors may prefer different platforms, which may sway your decision. Please be aware that lower-end Chromebooks may not be satisfactory when using processor-heavy apps such as Zoom.
What are the minimum requirements for the computer I bring to Gustavus?
Gustavus strongly encourages that all computers use a supported operating system that has been updated with the latest security updates. Windows computers need either Windows 10 or Windows 11. macOS computers need to be running version 13, 14, or 15 (Ventura, Sonoma, or Sequoia, respectively).
Gustavus requires that your laptop have 5GHz dual-band wireless.
What are the recommended specifications for my computer at Gustavus?
We recommend that laptops have 16GB RAM and the current generation Intel i5 or M2/M3 processor (Apple). We would also recommend that your device have a 3-year warranty or AppleCare (Apple).
