Problem

I need to mirror my computer display to an external device.

Environment

The article applies to Apple computers running Ventura 13 and up.

Resolution

  1. Connect your Mac to the external display you want to use
  2. Click on the Apple icon in the top-left corner of the screen, and then click System Settings...
  3. Click Displays in the sidebar
  4. Click the name of the display you would like to alter
  5. In the field titled Use as, choose Mirror for Built-in Display
  6. For advanced display mirroring and extending:
    1. While in Displays, click Arrange...
    2. Drag and drop the displays to rearrange how they extend from each other
    3. To mirror a display, hold the option key while you drag and drop it onto the display you want it to mirror
      • To un-mirror, hold the option key while you drag the stacked display away

Cause

Apple computers can automatically detect external displays, but must be programmed to use the display. For more detailed instructions, please visit Apple's support article at support.apple.com/en-ca/guide/mac-help/mchlb5f905a1/15.0/mac/15.0.
