Problem
I am a student and my computer has been infected with malware/adware, and I would like it removed.
Environment
The article applies to not Gustavus-owned macOS computers.
Resolution
- Download Malwarebytes for Macintosh application from https://malwarebytes.com.
- Run the installer
- Launch the Application (from the Applications folder)
- Read and accept the license agreement
- Check for Updates - from the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware menu, select Check for Updates
- To Scan - click the Scan button.
- Remove any found items.
Cause
A computer can become infected with adware and malware by a number of ways, but most likely from downloading or clicking on questionable links from the internet. Adware/Malware disguises itself as something beneficial, such as coupon codes, links to view free content otherwise normally paid for, drivers for printers or other computer accessories, or applications.
