How to Convert a File to a PDF (macOS)

Problem


I want to convert a file to a PDF.

 

Environment


The article applies to Apple computer users running macOS 10 or newer.

 

Resolution


  1. Open the file you want to convert to PDF in its native application (e.g., a Word document in Microsoft Word)
  2. Click on File in the top menu bar, then select Print (or use the keyboard shortcut Command + P)
  3. In the print dialog box that appears, click on the PDF drop-down menu in the bottom left corner
  4. Select Save as PDF from the menu options
  5. Choose a location to save the PDF file and give it a name
  6. Click Save to convert the file to PDF and save it to your chosen location

 

Cause


Many file-editing applications offer a way to print the resulting file, which can be used to save the result as a PDF.
